Do you know how you sometimes think how cool it would be to be the President? Then you find out that being the President is a lot of talking to people you don’t want to and posing for pictures and stuff that sucks? How about a baseball player? All glamorous, right? Then you find out they have to play when it’s 110 dgrees out and be constantly worried about being cut or sent down to the minors. How about playing in a band? That’s exciting and glamorous for shizzle! Well, my little acolytes, let me tell you about last night. I will have the rock band fantasy in one font and our reality in the other. (more…)

Seattle stays dark till noon. Well it certainly seems that way. We woke up at 6 (we are such rock stars) and headed to a radio station to do an on air performance and interview. It went as well as could be expected considering we were still sound asleep. They kind of concentrated on Kenny (a little humbling for Georgia and myself, but we can’t enjoy the pluses of being in a band with a famous guy and not be willing to live with the minuses). A lot of these shows only know how to advertise it as “Kenny Loggins with”….cause no one knows who we are yet. Still, I wish they could at least get the name right and call us Blue Sky Riders and not The Blue Sky Riders. Oh well. (more…)

Promo Day 2 – Seattle

Woke up at 5 to fly to Seattle to play for the corporate office of Amazon. Couldn’t find the place at first. We were driving up and down this funky street looking for the address. No number. Maybe it’s a virtual office and we are just playing a virtual performance?

We have been waiting for this for two years. Our record comes out in less than two weeks and we have hit the road to promote, promote, promote!! We are rising at 6AM…playing two and three times a day, back to back phone interviews, the Tonight Show, the Opry, my Lord I wish I was [...]

We have been waiting for this for two years. Our record comes out in less than two weeks and we have hit the road to promote, promote, promote!!

We are rising at 6AM…playing two and three times a day, back to back phone interviews, the Tonight Show, the Opry, my Lord I wish I was twenty again. Did I mention playing a private party at the Inaugural and the Sundance Film Festival? I thought not.. I get tired just typing it. Last night we started it all off with a corporate gig in Park City, Utah. (more…)

On Tour: Last Show

10.1.12 We thought we were in for trouble. The promoter promoted this show basically as a Kenny Loggins concert. Oops. Our management made double sure at every show that people knew that they were coming to hear a new band… not Footloose. The venues were warned they could not expect to get Kenny at BSR [...]

Our management made double sure at every show that people knew that they were coming to hear a new band… not Footloose. The venues were warned they could not expect to get Kenny at BSR prices. When we pulled into town and saw Kenny’s face on the posters today we were afraid we would have an angry mob in front of us.

Kenny handled it perfectly. We came out on stage and did “Feelin’ Brave,” and the audience totally dug it and went wild. Then someone yelled “Danger Zone!” and we all froze. (more…)

On Tour: Last Show at Feinstein’s

9.29.12 Last show at Feinstein’s and it was a blast! Both the early and the late show was awesome. It feels very weird to have it draw to a close after we looked forward and worried about it for so long. It went better than we had any right to expect. The people who run [...]

It went better than we had any right to expect. The people who run the room said it was the best show they’d ever had there, (more…)

9.28.12 I have never had to play two shows in a night. I used to be in bands that played multiple sets but this was the same show twice. Only thinking up new jokes kept them from being carbon copies of each other. We had nice crowds for each show and we rocked them equally. [...]

We keep waiting for some big political figure to come to one of our shows. They are all staying here. (more…)

9.27.12 Great audience tonight! Lots of friends in the crowd but it was more than that. Everything worked tonight… jokes, intros, just everything. My friend and comedy mentor, Mark Hudson, was sitting by the stage, so I threw in a spit take or two. Once again we had to cut the show short and be [...]

My friend and comedy mentor, Mark Hudson, was sitting by the stage, so I threw in a spit take or two. Once again we had to cut the show short and be off by 9:30. We cut down the acoustic section, which is a shame because the part really goes over well. We are getting good at timing our show so both short nights we aimed for ending at 9:30 and we left the stage at 9:34. We are good, baby!

9.26.12 They sure make things complicated here in NYC. We couldn’t do a soundcheck for our second show… we had to stop early for another show at 10… interesting parameters. It was total trust in our crew that we would walk onto the stage and it would sound great in the room and in our [...]

It was total trust in our crew that we would walk onto the stage and it would sound great in the room and in our earpieces and they did NOT let us down. We shaved a little off the show but I know that the crowd got its money’s worth. (more…)

9.25. 12 We are here in New York City all week playing the Feinstein room. This is a very classy, very famous cabaret room. We have been worried the whole tour about this gig. It is a small stage… a small place… a very small PA. We considered a lot of options… play with just the three acoustic guitars (our band would then sit idle in New Jersey all week getting into all kinds of legal trouble) or strip down and come up with all new arrangements and do an “Unplugged” version of our show (tough one… (more…)
