On May 5, 2009, another fire broke out in Santa Barbara, California, my hometown. A fire eventually referred to as the Jesusita Fire (not sure why), and over that month it burned over 8,000 acres of prime Santa Barbara land and many homes. Yet this was only the third in a series of devastating fires in Santa Barbara, spanning only a few years, that totaled thousands of acres lost and hundreds of homes. But I think that last fire, Jesusita, really was the one that knocked the wind out of many of my neighbors, and did some serious damage to their dreams of utopia in California. (more…)

I know first shows are supposed to be scary and stressful and make you want to paint your face and go to a football game … this would be one of those times if the only thing we were doing was playing a show. A little show in a nice club in Nashville. We’ve been on stages before. You go up and stand in the lights. You sing. Girls swoon. Bass players swoon. (We gotta get a new bass player). You finish and everyone acknowledges that you are godlike and you go home. (more…)

Starting a band is hard!!! Don’t get me wrong; I’m so excited about our big debut tomorrow but I’m tired as all get out. There’s so much to do that I don’t even know where to begin with all the organizing! Thank God we’ve got such good people around us and that there’s always two of us to pick up the slack where one of us leaves off. I’ve been a solo artist for most of my adult life so it’s pretty great having compadres in on this with me, but starting a band from the ground up in the new media world is quite overwhelming!!! There’s so much I don’t know and have to learn. (more…)
