Blue Sky Riders

Picture an airplane. Close your eyes if that helps. Look in the cockpit and picture that airplane with four pilots. One of them is a dashing Englishman with flying credits that date all the way back to Zeppelins. The second pilot has flown some of the most legendary planes in the history of flying. Kenny came to Nashville about two weeks ago and we had ourselves a concentrated Blue Sky Rider experience that damn near exhausted us. We had a simple, modest agenda. Kenny was going to sing on the CMAs, we were going to play the Bluebird, have a rehearsal for and then play a benefit at the Ryman, sing all the vocals for the five songs we recorded in California back in August, write two more songs, find a cure for at least two chronic diseases and one “24 hour” disease, paint our house and neuter the dog. So here we are on the new tour, BSR opening for Kenny on the west coast. I am sitting backstage at the Cannery Casino in Nevada listening to Angry Eyes waft thru the dressing rooms. We have just completed our second show. I am letting my nice shirt dry on a hanger while I wait to go back out and sing on Conviction of the Heart. This is a bone Kenny throws us so we can see what it feels like to face an audience that DOESN’T have puzzled looks on their faces. (more…)
