These days I can’t help but notice when I do something counter to what my history has taught me is the “wise thing” to do. Sometimes I can simply chalk it off to my short-sighted desire to getting my needs met, no matter the outcome, and sometimes I see that action as some naive urge in me that still wants to believe “it will somehow turn out differently this time. When I started out in the lucrative and steady career of folk-singer back in the day, many of the songs I played were Kenny Loggins songs. Not just because they were mindlessly simple and seemingly written to make girls believe I “got” them……probably not just that. No other reasons come to mind right at this moment but if one does I will add it to the end of this term paper…er, I mean “blog.” (more…)

That night, in a deep funk, I did what survival does, I circled the wagons, calling in the advice and council of some of my most trusted friends. Only hours after my hard lesson in “coming back to reality,” fortuitously I get a call from my good friend, Steve, who has something very different to say, “What’s the downside, really? At best, you get a new record deal and maybe even score a bullseye. At worst, you end up with a pocket full of really great songs, and you get other artists to cover some. So I’m in Alabama, backstage at a show getting ready to perform with my boyfriend, Gary Burr when he checks his emails on his Iphone and says “Georgia, get this:  Kenny Loggins just wrote me about that band idea.  Instead of a duo, he wants to do a trio by adding a girl to the mix…one who can sing great and write a killer song.  Isn’t that interesting?”  Interesting, it was.  I didn’t want to get excited at the prospect of that girl being me, but how could I not have gone there???  (more…)
