“Sweetheart, come sing for Bridgette!” yelled my mother from the living room.  I was four years old and Bridgette was my mom’s best friend who was a professional singer and gorgeous and blond.  I was too embarrassed to sing in person so I made a deal with my mom to give me five minutes and I would record my voice into a tape recorder from my bedroom.  Then she could play Bridgette the tape.  She laughed and said fine.  So from the safety of my twin bed, I hit RECORD and sang “Country Roads, Take Me Home” by John Denver.  I handed my mom the tape and then ran back into my bedroom, too nervous for feedback.  Bridgette listened to it and yelled back: “Hey Georgia, you’re really good! Starting a band is hard!!! Don’t get me wrong; I’m so excited about our big debut tomorrow but I’m tired as all get out. There’s so much to do that I don’t even know where to begin with all the organizing! Thank God we’ve got such good people around us and that there’s always two of us to pick up the slack where one of us leaves off. I’ve been a solo artist for most of my adult life so it’s pretty great having compadres in on this with me, but starting a band from the ground up in the new media world is quite overwhelming!!! There’s so much I don’t know and have to learn. (more…)

So I’m in Alabama, backstage at a show getting ready to perform with my boyfriend, Gary Burr when he checks his emails on his Iphone and says “Georgia, get this:  Kenny Loggins just wrote me about that band idea.  Instead of a duo, he wants to do a trio by adding a girl to the mix…one who can sing great and write a killer song.  Isn’t that interesting?”  Interesting, it was.  I didn’t want to get excited at the prospect of that girl being me, but how could I not have gone there???  (more…)
